Like breakfast meetings, power lunches are the ultimate excuse to add a little leisure to your working day. Even more so when it’s the name of an arts centre-cum-basement room on Kingsland Road that hosts gigs on a daily basis – which is why we found ourselves there on an otherwise unremarkable Tuesday evening.
The reason? Cheatahs’ album launch for their new Sunne EP under Wichita Records. In the short duration of the set – a result of extended technical issues – the four-piece managed to fit in an equally exhaustive selection of their 90s showgaze-tinged tunes, both old and new. Even a stampede of Spaniards drunkenly elbowing their way around the room didn’t seem to tamper with the Sunne-y atmosphere brought on by floating vocals and weightless, wave-like guitar riffs.
Staying true to its name, Power Lunches provided the pleasure – but Cheatahs meant serious business.
